Detroit, MI — Monday, December 14, 2026 — Sky Covington’s Preservation of Jazz Monday Night Music Series: Tributes proudly presents A Tribute to Anita Baker, featuring the extraordinary Kiko, live at Aretha’s Jazz Café at Music Hall.

Just before winter settles over Detroit, The Preservation of Jazz invites audiences into the warmth and intimacy of Aretha’s Jazz Café for an evening devoted to the unmistakable sound of one of Detroit’s most treasured musical voices.

Celebrating Anita Baker

Born in Toledo and raised in Detroit, Anita Baker became one of the defining voices of contemporary R&B, soul, and quiet storm. Her rich contralto, jazz-influenced phrasing, sophistication, and emotional honesty created a sound unlike anyone else.

From “Sweet Love” and “Caught Up in the Rapture” to “Giving You the Best That I Got,” “Angel,” and “You Bring Me Joy,” Baker created a catalog that became the soundtrack to love and romance for generations.

Her landmark album Rapture helped establish her as an international star and cemented her place among the most important vocalists to emerge from Detroit’s extraordinary musical tradition.

Kiko Takes the Stage

For this special December presentation, Kiko will celebrate the music and spirit of Anita Baker with a performance filled with soul, elegance, romance, and musical excellence.

This is not about imitation—it is about one vocalist honoring another while bringing her own artistry and interpretation to some of the most beautiful songs in contemporary soul.

The evening will be hosted by Mike Bonner and curated and opened by award-winning Detroit jazz vocalist and producer Sky Covington.
