Join San Diego artist Helen Shafer Garcia for this weekend workshop at 2KatStudios in Prescott, AZ

These beautiful sage beings entice a sense of prominence and attitude in a whimsical way. Come spend an imaginative and fun weekend creating these wonderful creatures that will bring joy and a sense of accomplishment for your creative path. These small sculptures will be beautifully adorned with small jewelry bits, textures and assorted metal charms.

They are structured with paper clay, an air-dried clay, that is easy to work with. The techniques for sculpting will include stamp designs, molds, and other thoughtful textures.

Helen will teach you how to sculpt animal faces and will have animal and human face molds available too.

Learn how to work with wire armatures and attachments. Add as many do- dads and embellishments as you want to tell your story.

Finally, we’ll work with antiquing techniques with acrylics to define and age the creatures. Iridescent and metallic colors will add a touch of sage and prominence.

Kit fee is $20, payable to Helen at the workshop

1 -16 oz. bag Creative Paper Clay

Patina fluid acrylic paints

Iridescent fluid acrylic paints

Nails

18-gauge wire

Sandpaper

Sponges

Paper armatures

SUPPLIES to bring

1 ½” flat acrylic brush

1 ¼” flat acrylic brush

1 small round detail brush

6 or more fluid acrylic colors. (I recommend Golden fluid acrylics 1 oz or 4 oz bottles – 3 warm and 3 cool colors plus 1 -bottle white fluid acrylic)

Small bottle of Weldbond glue

Small charms, Milagros, beads, buttons to embellish your creatures.

Helen will provide 18-gauge wire so plan accordingly. Bring other gauges of wire if needed for additional embellishment attachments.

Helen Shafer Garcia is a painter, a mixed media, book arts and ceramics artist, and an award-winning illustrator. Helen’s watercolor illustrations have graced the cover of brochures, garden articles, and advertisements of numerous international resorts and magazines for more than 30 years. Awards include four San Diego Press Club First Place Awards of Excellence in Illustration for San Diego Home/Garden Lifestyles Magazine. Her works and articles have been published in Southwest Art; Cloth, Paper, Scissors; San Diego Home and Garden Lifestyles, and Studios magazines. Helen holds a BA degree in fine arts with an emphasis in illustration and ceramics. She is a signature member of the San Diego Watercolor Society and teaches watercolor and mixed media workshops internationally and across the U.S.

Covid Policy:

In order to maintain a safe environment, we require proof of a negative antigen home test taken the morning of the workshop. Well fitting masks may be required when indoors. Social distancing will be done whenever possible. Should you test positive, you will not be able to attend. A partial refund or a voucher for another workshop may be offered.

Cancellation Policy:

A full refund, less a $35.00 processing fee, will be given at the cancellation of a workshop registration as long as the cancellation request is received by midnight, 30 days before the event.

No refund or credit is given for cancellations made with less than 30 days’ notice, if you fail to attend, or if you leave the event early, or if you miss part of a session.

Some exceptions may be made for sudden incapacitating illness or family emergencies. You might be able to apply for a partial credit toward another workshop at 2KatStudios within the next 24 months.

If you, or we, are able to find someone to take your place, you will receive a full refund.

If 2KatStudios has to cancel:

If we must cancel for any reason, you may transfer your payment to another workshop, or you may request a refund of your payment to us, constituting a full settlement.

2KatStudios is not responsible for your expenses incurred in preparation for any cancelled workshop, such as airline tickets, loss of work, and/or other costs associated with preparing for your trip. For this reason, we highly recommend travel cancellation insurance.
