Welsh producer and multi-instrumentalist The Anchoress (aka Catherine Anne Davies) has amassed an army of celebrity fans including the Manic Street Preachers and The Cure’s Robert Smith.
Her live show mixes epic melancholic guitar anthems alongside her trademark “swaggering synth-pop” (Uncut) and “shining alt-pop from the artisan of darkness” (Record Collector).
She has been twice nominated for the Welsh Music Prize and also found the time for collaborations with the Manics, Bernard Butler and Simple Minds.
Her second album The Art of Losing successfully transformed wall-to-wall critical plaudits into a Top 10 position in the UK physical album charts, as well as the #1 spot on iTunes. It was also named an album of the year by The Sunday Times, The Line of Best Fit, Mail on Sunday, Prog, and The Sun, and hailed as “one of my favourite records of the year” by Sir Elton John.
Versions, her recent collection of imaginative re-workings of indie anthems was named an album of the year by the Mail on Sunday and described by The Sunday Times as “beguiling and insightful”. This covers collection of tracks by Radiohead, REM, Depeche Mode, Nirvana, the Cure was hailed as “spine tingling” by BBC 6 Music’s Chris Hawkins.
