"A subtle form of intensity" - Mojo Magazine
Signed to the iconic UK based Bella Union label—home to some of the most treasured names in indie and alternative music, including Fleet Foxes, The Flaming Lips, Beach House, and Father John Misty— Wren Hinds’ emotive performances have unveiled the artist as one of South Africa’s emerging voices. With his evocative lyrics, tender melodies, and an innovative blend of delicate indie, folk, and subtle jazz soundscapes, Wren’s performances promise an immersive musical experience.
Wren is joined by his masterful band- some of Southern Africa’s cherished musicians including- Jonno Sweetman (Kyle Shepherd trio, Reza Khota Quartet) on drums, Dylan Fine (Zoe Modiga, Langa Mavuso, Manana) on electric guitar, Maurice Paliaga (The Dirty Skirts) on bass.
Wren’s fourth album, Don’t Die in the Bundu, has been praised by critics in the US, UK, Ireland & South Africa:
Follk Radio UK *****
"Charged with timeless beauty..."
The Sun ****
"Gentle, lush, and gorgeously textured... ‘Dream State’ is hazy and delicate, while ‘Wild Eyes’ captivates with whispered balladry."
Mojo ****
"Low-key elegance meets hushed, harmony-rich ballads. Dreamy layers of guitar, harp, and flute evoke wonder and resilience."
Uncut ****
"A restrained gem—poetic, textured, and reminiscent of José González and Jack Johnson, yet uniquely compelling."
Record Collector ****
"Sweet, soft hymns to hope and perseverance, with limpid psychedelia adding vivid colour to intimate arrangements."
NARC Magazine *****
"Full-bodied yet exquisitely subtle—a masterstroke of indie-folk artistry."
Audiences can look forward to a performance filled with heartfelt storytelling and intricate arrangements, resonating with a unique South African perspective that is both timeless and contemporary.
