About this Event
The AlcAdemy Series: Hello friend, it's me Nature
Just in time for the weather warmup, urban ecologist Dr. Sara Gagne will speak about how being stuck inside affects our brains and how to reacquaint ourselves with the nature in our backyards, neighborhoods and beyond. During the event, our guest expert will present the topic and answer questions with time for attendees to connect and discuss what they've learned after. Light refreshments will be provided and beverages available for purchase.
The AlcAdemy is a space where alcohol meets academics and curious minds are fed. We bring local experts to deliver engaging talks on subjects that spark interesting conversation. No small talk required! Come and encounter a new idea, new person, and new perspective.
Dr. Sara Gagne is and associate professor and chair in the Department of Earth, Environmental and Geographical Sciences at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She specializes in landscape ecology, urban ecology, human environment interaction, and biodiversity conservation. Sara authored the book Nature at Your Door: Connecting with the Wild and Green in the Urban and Suburban Landscape which teaches us that what we do in our yards matters just as much as the way our local parks and nature preserves are managed.
