The Alabama Solution Film Screening and Panel Discussion
About this Event
The Alabama Solution is a 2025 Oscar-nominated HBO documentary by Andrew Jarecki and Charlotte Kaufman that examines conditions inside Alabama’s Pr*son system. Drawing on six years of covertly recorded cellphone footage captured by incarcerated organizers, the film reveals patterns of brutality, corruption, and labor exploitation, while centering the struggle for transparency, rehabilitation, accountability, and human dignity.
Following the film, we will host an important panel discussion about the state of Pr*son conditions here in Michigan, with a particular focus on Women’s Huron Valley Correctional Facility, Michigan’s only women’s Pr*son. Huron Valley has recently gained national and local media attention due to alarming reports about alleged unsafe conditions, medical neglect, and the severely declining health and deaths of several incarcerated women who had been held in the WHV facility before passing. The panel will connect the film's themes to the urgent local advocacy efforts, offering attendees a call to action.Door
