'The Age of Kali:' A Play on the Six Enemies of the Mind

Meet Kali and Sin, rulers of the current age, and rather proud of the mess they've made of it!
WHAT THIS IS
The Age of Kali is a piece of immersive theater built around six characters: Lust, Anger, Greed, Illusion, Madness, and Envy
All are operatives working under Kali's command, each one demonstrating exactly how they take apart an ordinary mind, piece by piece.
Staged in gothic carnival costume and full theatrical makeup, it plays like a cross between a morality play and a cabaret.
This is dark, funny, visually striking, and built for an audience that wants their theater strange and a little dangerous.
The material is drawn from the Bhagavad-Gita, but nothing about the staging is reverent or lecture-style.
This is satire with teeth: AI, plastic in your water bottle, the promotion that costs you everything, the argument you can't let go of. It's uncomfortably familiar before it's anything else.
When Kali's operation meets something it has no answer for, the play shifts. It builds to a live, joyful kirtan, call-and-response chanting with music, and the audience is invited to join in, not just watch anymore.
What starts as dark comedy ends as something closer to communal celebration.
The question underneath the whole show: In a world built to keep you distracted, what actually sets you free?

You don't need any background in the Bhagavad-Gita, Indian philosophy, or spiritual practice going in. The show works the way good satire always works: It gets you laughing before you notice it's also gotten you thinking.
WHO'S PRESENTING IT
The Age of Kali is staged by the performing arts ensemble of Sacred Vedic Arts, presented as part of Song of the Soul, a Bhagavad Gita devotional art exhibition on view September 11 through October 31.
Performing arts is one of five working creative disciplines at Sacred Vedic Arts, alongside visual art, culinary art, literary art, and ceremonial art, all built around the same source material this play draws from.
THE DETAILS
Runtime is approximately two hours, including the performance, live music, and a talk after the show. Tickets are $11. Seating is limited.
The Age of Kali is staged at the Marshall L. Davis Sr. African Heritage Cultural Arts Center, 6161 NW 22nd Avenue, Miami, home to the full Song of the Soul exhibition through October 31.
