Known for his soulful interpretations, he brought intuitive, heartfelt presence to every performance. Though new to our community, Paul has been quickly embraced for his talent, warmth, and gift for sparking creative collaboration. Now, his friends and fellow musicians—some of the area’s finest—come together to honor him through the music he cherished: Paul Simon, Cat Stevens, Joni Mitchell, Carole King, James Taylor, the Beatles, and more. Come sing, remember, and celebrate a life lived in song.The concert offers a soulful journey through the soundtrack of a generation—songs of love, change, longing, and hope—interpreted with fresh arrangements and the seasoned artistry of McCann and special guest performers Jay Tausig, Elena Rayo and Dustin Koupal. Set in the historic Nevada Theatre, this afternoon matinee promises warmth, nostalgia, and exceptional musicianship. Anni McCann is a Nevada City–based vocalist and multi-instrumentalist celebrated for her musical versatility. Trained in opera, musical theatre and vocal arranging, she began her professional career at age 12. She later toured the West coast and Europe for over a decade with the folk-jazz trio, Backwoods Jazz, releasing 4 albums with bandmate Paul Emery. She recorded and performed with Supertramp’s Roger Hodgson, has played at major festivals and even performed for the Queen of England. Anni was most recently a featured vocalist in “A Thousand Kisses Deep”, a Leonard Cohen tribute, and is currently co-founder of The Dolli Mamas, a harmony-driven acoustic female trio. Her solo albums This Moment and Open Page showcase her lyrical and musical depth. She also records at Ancient Wave Studios and is a vital force in the Sierra Foothill community.
Paul Godwin was a Nevada City–based vocalist and pianist known for his authentic, passionate interpretations of 1970s classics and a wide-ranging artistic career. He produced sold-out shows at Besemer Concert Hall, Miner’s Foundry and appearances at Center for the Arts. Paul co-founded The Sippy Cups, a nationally touring family rock band that reimagined classic rock for all ages, performing at House of Blues coast-to-coast, Lollapalooza, and SF Giants Park. Owner of NEWdOG Records since 1996, he has released albums as Dogon, Eternal Return and other progressive ambient groups. A Berklee-trained record producer, Paul is producing Elena Rayo’s latest album at Ancient Wave Studios with Oz Fritz engineering. As co-founder of Myrtle Tree Arts, he continues to nurture collaborative and community-based festivals and events in Northern California.
