Join us to hear from our esteemed guests about what the Endangered Species Act has done for California conservation over the past 50 years.
About this Event

California has more native species than any state in the US, and many of them are endangered. As the US Endangered Species Act turned 50 years old, it’s time to ask how the ESA is working for our state’s biodiversity. Please join us as we hear from several leading voices on endangered species listing and recovery to learn, firsthand, what is working best, what is not, and how we can improve conservation actions in the future. Afterwards, join us for refreshments and informal discussions with the speakers and our current La Kretz Center postdoctoral scientists to see the work we’re doing to promote California conservation science.

Speakers include:

  • Dr. Cat Darst (Classification Coordinator for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Pacific Southwest Region)
  • Dr. Scott Morrison (Director of Conservation Programs & Science for the California Nature Conservancy)
  • Dr. Brad Shaffer (Distinguished Professor at UCLA and Director of the La Kretz Center for California Conservation Science)

This free event is open to all ages and is sponsered by the UCLA Insitute of the Environment & Sustainabilty.
