Honey and cheese for the Thanksgiving table
Louvila Honey is back at Ideal Cheese Shop on Saturday, November 21, from 4 to 6 PM. Drop in any time: taste our single-origin honey from the Kongo Central forests of the Democratic Republic of Congo with cheeses chosen by the Ideal Cheese team, meet co-founder Olivier Kivitidi and his family, and leave with an idea or two for your holiday table. It's free. The RSVP simply helps us and the shop prepare enough to taste.
What you'll taste
Louvila Honey: one forest, one harvest. A dark, aromatic raw honey with woody, earthy notes and a long caramel finish. Cheeses from Ideal Cheese's counter, chosen by the team to pair with it; in October we poured it over brie, bleu and parmesan. Ideas for the table: a honey-and-cheese board to open the meal, a drizzle over roasted sweet potatoes, a glaze for the turkey. We'll talk you through how we use it at home.
Who you'll meet
Olivier Kivitidi, who started Louvila Honey with his brother Henri to bring the honey of the Kongo Central forests to New York and to help beekeepers earn a lasting income from a standing forest. The Kivitidi family will be serving. And the Ideal Cheese team, who have been cutting cheese to order in New York since 1954.

Louvila Honey is on the shelf at Ideal Cheese Shop, so you can pick one up for your Thanksgiving host, or for yourself, on the way out.

Free, no ticket needed. Drop in any time between 4 and 6 PM; a tasting takes about ten minutes. Family welcome. Ideal Cheese Shop, 942 First Avenue between 51st and 52nd Streets, Midtown East; subway 6 to 51 St or E and M to Lexington Av/53 St. Ground-floor shop. Can't make it?
