Join acclaimed saxophonist Thabani Gapara and his band in a vibrant celebration of his new album Dzindza (ancestry) which blends traditional African rhythms with contemporary jazz sounds. From original Afro Jazz compositions to reimagined familiar classics, these flamboyant and infectious rhythms will get your feet stomping.This special concert is a soulful journey through Gapara’s musical heritage, blending traditional African rhythms with contemporary sounds to create an innovative and captivating experience. An acclaimed saxophonist and composer Thabani Gapara has crafted Dzindza – which means “Roots” in his mother tongue Shona – as a tribute to his cultural roots. Each original composition on the album tells a story, reflecting Gapara’s deep connection to his heritage while showcasing his talent for merging the old with the new. And to add to the joy, Thabani and his band will feature some of the beloved music that audiences around Aotearoa have enjoyed, a mix of afro-soul originals and favourite classics you will recognise instantly – and fall in love with these musicians’ interpretations of them.
