One of Society Hill Synagogue's signature programs, TGIShabbat is back for the first time since February 2020, blending the warmth of our synagogue community with world-class musicians for a very special Kabbalat Shabbat service. Come together in person or by Zoom as we welcome Shabbat through song and prayer with Rabbi Nathan Kamesar, Hazzan Jessi Roemer, and guest artists, Jessie Reagen Mann and Daniel Johnson.
There will be an "Oneg On The Go" package of Shabbat treats for in-person attendees, so we need your RSVP by Tuesday, Oct. 26 to Leanne Bendetti at [email protected]. Leanne can also provide the Zoom link if you're attending remotely.
JESSIE REAGEN MANN is a cellist involved in a variety of musical projects. A lover of chamber music, Jessie is currently the cellist of the Om Shalom Trio, a sitar, cello, and tabla trio that combines Indian ragas and Jewish melodies. Jessie was a proud member of Hadar’s Rising Song Institute Fellowship under the direction of Joey Weisenberg and can often be heard playing liturgical music in both traditional and mindfulness settings.
A seasoned educator, Jessie is a teaching artist with the Philadelphia Lullaby Project in partnership with World Cafe Live and Carnegie Hall, where she helps new parents create lullabies to sing with their children. Jessie also authored the left-hand cello technique book, 60 Seconds to Excellence. Jessie has performed with artists such as Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Ra Ra Riot, Enya, Billy Joel, Natalie Merchant, tap dancer Savion Glover, Gòn, and Anat Cohen at iconic venues including the Kennedy Center, Radio City Music Hall and Madison Square Garden. Jessie was part of Adele’s live 2016 tour and has played in various Broadway musicals.
DANIEL JOHNSON's path in music has been a journey from the pounding percussive energy of performing with Philadelphia’s 20-member Spoken Hand Percussion Orchestra to the freedom and vibe of performing with Miles Davis alumnus Badal Roy’s “Dharma Jazz” to the intense depth of tabla player to North Indian classical sitar legend Ustad Shafaat Khan. These and many more projects, including being a percussionist at Princeton University for the Department of Modern Dance, have kept Daniel moving further into subtle pulsation.
