DESCRIPTION: Nestled within the landscape of Owen Park, Tulsa’s first public park, the former Theodore Roosevelt Junior High School stands as a testament to the city’s enduring commitment to education and design. Built in 1926, the stately structure was designed by Tulsa architect Leland Shumway in the Commercial style with a modified Collegiate Gothic influence. Known locally as a “school architect,” Shumway left an indelible mark on Tulsa through the many schools he designed, shaping the educational landscape for generations.
Today, the building thrives as the home of Tulsa School of Arts and Sciences (TSAS), continuing its legacy as a place of innovation and intellectual curiosity. In 2026, the site marks a remarkable triple milestone: the 100th anniversary of the original Roosevelt School building, the 25th anniversary of TSAS, and the 10th anniversary of TSAS making this historic campus its home.
