Natural Dyes Workshop
About this Event

In this workshop, you will learn ancient techniques of washing, carding, and dyeing wool with natural products that have been inherited from generation to generation. The Zapotec artisan Vero Mendoza will demonstrate the process she uses in the production of her textiles made on a pedal loom.

Each participant will be provided with a small cotton garment so they can experience the magic of natural dyeing themselves.

Light snacks and refreshments provided.

About Artist
Vero Mendoza is a Zapotec woman and artisan from Teotitlan Del Valle Oaxaca, Mexico. Her mother carried Vero on her back with her rebozo, while she washed wool in the river to prepare it for their textiles. She cared, nurtured and taught her everything she knows. This traditional art form sustained them; however, after her mother’s passing, Vero was not able to weave for 3 years, because of the heartache. This year she is resuming her mothers legacy and gently returning home. When her hands are over the loom she can feel her mother guiding every string. She senses her presence in the essence of each natural element and witnesses her magic in the completion of every tapestry. Through weaving, mother and daughter are together again - her mother's spirit living on in every textile she creates.
