Textile printing, 4 day summer school workshop

This course will be a well-rounded and inspiring workshop for textile enthusiasts to create their own unique fabric designs. You will be guided through the simple processes of screen-printing, block printing and stencilling techniques onto cloth. This will include exposing an image onto a screen, using light sensitive emulsion.

Over the 4 days:

Students will be encouraged to sketch and draw and talk about how drawing informs fabric printing and design and also look at the patterns in the everyday, how pattern informs, surrounds and benefits us.

The workshop includes presentations on some influential textiles designers and textile artists and will encourage some personal conversations around textiles and memories. Students will learn how to carefully mix colours to create their unique colour pallets, design and develop a range of printed samples looking at composition, repetition and colour.

Students will have the opportunity to experiment with a variety of techniques, creating a range of samples on cotton, working towards a final printed length of linen.
