Use your needle as a pen and turn a favourite piece of text into beautiful hand embroidered artwork, in this inspiring and relaxing workshop
About this Event

This Text in Textiles workshop teaches you how to use your needle as a pen and turn a favourite piece of text into beautiful hand embroidered artwork, building up a complimentary embroidery design to complete your work.

What we'll do

Using a favourite piece of text – a quote, saying, extract from a book, letter, email, poem or similar as a starting point to create a piece of unique textile art we'll explore ways of transferring writing to fabric as well as how to copy others handwriting, which is a lovely way of preserving memories and keepsakes.

We then move on to developing a complimentary design to create a beautiful embroidered artwork, exploring different stitches and techniques that are appropriate to your design. Finally, we discuss ways to finish the embroidery.

Who the workshop is for

This workshop is for adults who enjoy stretching their skills and would love to learn new and interesting ways to create embroidery. This workshop is suitable for those with some embroidery skills through to the more accomplished embroiderer. An ambitious beginner would also enjoy this workshop. If you are unsure if this workshop is for you, please contact me.

What's included

All materials are included, but please bring your piece of chosen text either on a phone, tablet or printed out. Please be aware this is a 3 hour workshop and it won’t be possible to complete a piece of work that contains a large amount of writing in this time frame. However, if the text you would like to do is longer than this I’m very happy for you to start work on it during the workshop and continue at home afterwards. I’ll ensure that you have the knowledge to continue with your work and you are able to take fabric and threads to complete the artwork.

If you have any materials or an embroidery kit you would like to use, please feel free to bring them with you.

A beautifully curated giftbox is included for each participant so that the creativity can continue after the workshop.

The Venue

The workshop is at The Stitching Lady, Scarborough and runs from 1-4pm. There is a toilet up a flight of stairs and a step into the shop.
