Teus Nobel is one of the leading figures in Dutch jazz. With Child’s Play he presents his eleventh album, and his most personal to date. For this project he assembled a true all-star band, with guitarist Teis Semey, bassist Jasper Høiby and drummer Niek de Bruijn. The music took shape during a period in which his family faced serious illness. While resilience and pragmatism were called for at home, Nobel found his inspiration in the play of his children: free, unpredictable and full of imagination.
That energy runs through the compositions, which leave ample room for spontaneity and controlled chaos. Prior to the concert, we screen the compelling documentary Human First (approx. 50 min.), in which British filmmakers Simon Sixsmith and Steve Denniss captured how Nobel and his wife found space for creativity again after an intense period.
‘Teus Nobel is one of those once-in-a-generation guys that brings it ALL to the table.’ (Christian Scott)
