Explore printmaking using recycled Tetra Pak on our one day intaglio workshop.
About this Event

Join artist and printmaker Adrian Sestini to explore using recycled materials to create beautiful intaglio prints using drypoint and collograph methods.

You will experiment with mark making on recycled Tetra Pak and packaging using a variety of different tools such as dry point needles, craft knives, wire brushes, roulette wheels and stitching wheels.

You will use intaglio water-based inks - rubbing it on, wiping it off and adding highlights. You will learn how to use our traditional etching presses in the workshop, how to prepare soaked paper and how to transfer your chosen design onto the Tetra Pak.

The class will be taught in a step by step way with time for experimentation and to produce a larger A4 print edition.

What experience do I need?

This workshop is suitable for complete beginners as well as those with some previous experience. It is a great workshop to develop skills in using different recycled materials to create prints. The process can lend itself well to simple shapes and patterns as well as detailed line drawings so don't be put off if you don't feel confident with drawing.

What will I make?

You'll come away with some small test pieces using the different tools and equipment provided and a larger edition of intaglio prints onto A4 paper.

Who is my tutor?

Adrian Sestini is a member of Leeds Print workshop and a practicing printmaker based in Leeds. His work mainly focuses on traditional hand printed woodcuts of Leeds landmarks. He is a traditional craftsperson concentrating on handmade printing techniques.

During lockdown he has been exploring intaglio printmaking and embossing using a small craft press at home. He experiments with different recycled products and mark making on Tetra Paks.

Do I need to bring anything?

All materials and equipment will be provided on the day. You may find it useful to bring along sketchbooks, or images to use as inspiration and a small folder to take your prints away in.

Accessibility

Our aim is to bring printmaking to as many people as possible. By their nature, some printmaking processes involve an amount of physical effort. Leeds Print Workshop is based in a basement studio at Patrick Studios, a bespoke venue for artists operated by East Street Arts. It is fully wheelchair accessible, with a lift, larger than standard doors and disabled toilet facilities. We recognise that everybody’s accessibility needs may differ, therefore please email us at [email protected] to discuss any concerns you may have before booking. There is one dedicated disabled car parking space to the side of the building on Rider Street.

Please note: we regret that, for safety reasons, only those over the age of 16 will be permitted to undertake the course.
