Much of MSK practice with tendons is still based on assumption. This course is about changing that!
About this Event
A highly practical, hands-on introduction to ultrasound scanning of the key upper and lower limb tendons.
This is a one-day fundamentals course - not suited for advanced practitioners or those already completed the PG-Cert pathway. The course is open to:
- Physiotherapists, podiatrists, and sports therapists looking to improve tendon assessment and treatment planning
- Private practitioners using shockwave, EMTT, or similar devices who want to add scanning to their clinical toolkit
- Clinicians new to ultrasound scanning or just getting started
Designed for clinicians who want to integrate point-of-care ultrasound into their tendon management - whether you’re using shockwave therapy, EMTT, or simply want greater diagnostic confidence before and after treatment and to progress rehabilitation.
You’ll spend most of the day on the probe, in small groups (3:1 ratio) using VINNO ultrasound systems - dedicated high quality ultrasound machines; intuitive, easy to use, and delivering clear tendon imaging so you can focus on scanning.
Pre-course material will be provided via online video modules covering Physics fundementals, knobology, and clinical governance.
The day itself will predominantly focus on practical sessions to ensure practical experience is gained with the device, where you will learn how to:
- Scan key upper & lower limb tendons
- Recognise normal vs pathological changes
- Make better decisions with shockwave, EMTT and rehab
- Explain findings to patients (which massively improves buy in)
The course will involve:
- Introduction - ultrasound recap, image interpretation, and tendon pathology
- Machine Orientation - hands-on with ultrasound machine, probe handling, identifying tissue types and bony landmarks
- Lower Limb tendons - Achilles tendon, Plantar fascia, Patellar tendon, Quadriceps tendon (Slides, live demo, then supervised scanning practice)
- Upper Limb Tendons - Shoulder (simplified protocol), Tennis elbow, Golfer’s elbow (Slides, live demo, then supervised scanning practice)
- Open Scanning Practice - Revisit any area from the day with tutor guidance
- Where To Go From Here - Advanced practice pathways, integrating ultrasound into private practice, next steps for your scanning journey, clinical governance
Learning outcomes:
✓ Confidence scanning key upper and lower limb tendons
✓ Ability to identify normal and pathological tendon on ultrasound
✓ Structured scan checklists for every tendon covered
✓ Practical machine skills - probe handling, depth, gain, image optimisation
✓ A clear pathway for further development
The course will begin at 9am and end at approximately 4pm and will be hosted in our Liverpool training centre. There will be a break around midday for lunch, which is provided. Any dietary requirements will be requested on booking.
