About this Event
We live amidst vibrant tree communities that hold rich cultural traditions and teachings. Trees are models of adaptability, resourcefulness, and collaboration. In this interactive 2-day workshop, you will gain skills in plant identification and explore food, medicine, traditional technologies, and social-emotional teachings related to common Pacific Northwest trees.
Learn to make tree-inspired recipes including a respiratory steam, forest bathing salts, and tree lip balm. Participants will receive a curriculum that is adaptable for young kids through adults with lesson plans, an identification key, tree matching cards, Salish stories, and recipes. This training is geared towards educators, informal and formal.
We will spend some time outside; please dress in layers and wear comfortable shoes. Coffee, tea, snacks are provided - please bring your own lunch.
We have 2 scholarships waiving the registration fee for Indigenous educators. Please email Mariana Harvey at [email protected] to inquire.
Tend, Gather, and Grow (Tend) is a K-12 curriculum that focuses on native and naturalized plants of the Pacific Northwest region. Through hands-on activities, students explore themes in wild food traditions, herbal medicine, plant technologies, cultural ecosystems, and tree communities. Northwest Native American plant knowledge and stories are woven throughout the curriculum. Learn more about this toolkit and others at www.NativePlantsAndFoodsInstitute.com
