Learn to spin wonderful, washable cotton, a fiber that connects people throughout the world and throughout time. This course will introduce you to the fiber in all of its forms, characteristics, care and uses. You will learn at least ten methods of changing this sometimes frustrating fiber into comfortable washable yarns for weaving, knitting and crochet. We will cover fiber preparation from ginning to carding. Blending cotton with other fibers and finishing will also be covered in the workshop.
Supplies to Bring:
- Use our wheel and equipment OR Bring your working spinning wheel with at least 4 empty bobbins.
- high speed flyer if you have one.
- lazy kate or shoe box and knitting needles.
- fine or cotton hand cards.
- notebook and pen.
- Your lunch and beverages
- $10 materials fee payable to the instructor at start of class. Cash or check only accepted.

Pat has been spinning and weaving since the late 1960’s. She has been certified by Handweavers Guild of America as a Master Spinner, having completed both levels of the program. She frequently demonstrates spinning, weaving and dyeing at historical venues and pioneer festivals. She has been teaching all types of spinning at the Weaver’s Guild since the late 1980’s.
Depending on the CDC guidelines for Hamilton County at the time the class is held, a mask may be required. If so, you will be notified before the first class.
If you are not feeling well, please contact the instructor instead of coming to the class. On a case-by-case basis, we may be able to reschedule you into a future class or provide a make-up lesson. Ticket fees are not normally refunded.
Unless specifically stated, Weavers Guild classes are designed for ages 18 and above. On a case-by-case basis, a minor may be permitted to register for a class but must be accompanied by a registered adult who agrees to assist the minor during the class. Contact the Education Committee Chair at [email protected] for permission before registering any minor in a class.
Fees are non-refundable. Your fee will only be refunded if the class is canceled or changed to a different date. Three registrations are required for a class to be held. Students will be notified before the start date if a class is canceled due to an insufficient number of students. Eventbrite processing and credit card payment fees will not be refunded if a student cancels for any reason.
