Join us for a night of powerful spoken word and vibrant performances at the Southside Cultural Center of Rhode Island. Tell Your Truth, in proud partnership with Culture Fest, presents "Poetic Sessions - Sounds of the Culture." This event celebrates the diverse voices and stories within our community, bringing together poets and performers from across the region.


Featured Performers:


New York Poets:


Sabreen Sudan-Jolley: An Educator, Poet, and Author, Sabreen travels the world to spread the beauty of art, spoken word, and visualization. A graduate of Clark Atlanta University, her work has been showcased in various publications, and she has graced stages like the Apollo Theatre and Dis’ Poem Festival. Currently, she is developing her next major manuscript as a residential artist in France, with aspirations to become a bestselling children’s book author, novelist, and renowned poet.


Emilio The Poet: Hailing from the Bronx, New York City, Emilio is a dynamic Spoken Word Artist, author, MC, and actor. He is a 2x Poetry Slam Champion, most recently winning at BRIC, the Brooklyn Poetry Slam. Emilio has performed at numerous prestigious venues, including St. John’s University, the Nassau Coliseum, the Nuyorican Poets Cafe, the Bowery Ballroom, and the Apollo Theater.


Connecticut Poets:


Sharmont "Influence" Little: The 2024 New Haven Poet Laureate, Sharmont is a passionate poet, actor, and activist who uses spoken word to amplify messages of justice. As an educator and advocate, he uplifts inner-city youth and has performed at top institutions nationwide. He is the founder of Influence A Life LLC, fostering coping and social skills with the mantra, "Influence a life every day; it’s just a way of living."


Baub Bidon: A Haitian/African American poet, actor, writer, and playwright, Baub seamlessly blends Hip Hop, jazz, and blues into his performance poems and stories. He is the founder of Free 2 Spit in New Haven, CT, an open mic venue since 2004, and has been affiliated with the Blackout Arts Collective and the Connecticut Slam Team. Baub's dynamic presence extends to music videos, films, plays, and roles with Incarn Live Virtual Theatre.


Massachusetts Poets:


Michael Warrior Bonds: An award-winning spoken word artist, poet, educator, motivational speaker, and elder statesman in Roxbury, Boston, Michael is known for his passionate performances that connect deeply with audiences. He is the founder of POEMSBoston and the author of two poetry books. Michael has facilitated workshops nationally and internationally, earning recognition for his contributions to the arts and community.


Lyrical Faith: A Black American Educator, Activist, and Spoken Word Poet from The Bronx, NY, Lyrical Faith has been featured at colleges, universities, and venues worldwide. She is the 3rd ranked Woman Poet in the World as of the 2022 Women of the World Poetry Slam, a two-time Bronx Poet Laureate finalist, and a multi-time award recipient of citywide and statewide arts agencies.


Rhode Island Poets:


Simply Sara: An African/Cape Verdean/African American consultant and Providence native, Simply Sara blends her artistic talents to serve under-represented communities. As a business owner, artist, and mother, she creates programs for inner-city youth, merging education with community organization. She is an alum of URI with a background in African American Studies & Human Development and serves as Co-Chair of URI’s Alumni of Color Network. Sara produces storytelling art reflecting her rich Cape Verdean heritage and teaches social-emotional learning through poetry.


Rudy Rudacious: An Actor, Poet, and Storyteller from Providence, RI, Rudy began his acting career at 17 and has performed in a range of stage productions. His poetry has taken him to national stages, representing the Lizard Lounge team and reaching the top 8 in the country in 2013. Rudy is passionate about using language to entertain and create emotional connections with his audience.
