Tell A Vision

Televisions were once the pride of the living room, and a recognizably old TV is a passport to a different kind of nostalgia for each person. It holds a special place in childhood memories that most people didn’t even realize they had.
Tell A Vision is a group art project built on that emotional territory. It began when curator Jay Schwarzhoff started noticing discarded televisions while driving around Baton Rouge — left on roadsides, in trash pickups, tossed in dumpsters. He began collecting the salvaged fronts until he had enough not only for his own work, but to invite others to join him.
Nineteen artists were each given those rescued television faces and asked to make them new again. The TV frame becomes canvas, context, and inspiration all at once. The image inside might be something you’d expect to see on screen, or something entirely unexpected emerging from it. The result is at once nostalgic and new, familiar and surprising. And, as curator Jay puts it, “almost hard to stop from being fun.”
The works in this exhibition are as varied as the artists who made them. The TV front is the only common thread. Everything else — the vision — belongs entirely to each artist.
