Brilliant young Worthing band Telecom are playing Spun on Saturday 28th September...With influences ranging from The Kinks & The Left Banke through to Stereolab & Belle and Sebastian, their modern take on the 60's sound is hazy yet angular, where hypnotic post-punk/indie-pop riffs are layered with psychedelic vocal harmonies & whooshing modular synths.
With Brighton, London, Worthing & Derby gigs under their belts, come and see them for free at Spun records before they completely slam into the stratosphere!
Telecom are joined by DJ Jawa Jones, Jawa loves going into record shops digging for weird & wonderful music from the past. A London-based vinyl DJ she enjoys spinning 60s and 70s music ranging from garage rock, psych, East Asia beat and soul whenever she gets the chance.
Jawa runs WANITA in London, a night dedicated to music sung by womxn, on records played by womxn. She also runs the @wanitamusic Mixcloud page where she invites female DJs from across the globe to make mixes of their favourite female artists.
Jawa also hosts the Wanita Music Show at Radio X Frankfurt on the first Friday of every month. She has hosted shows at Barrelhouse Radio & the Mono Loco Mixtape show at @sohoradio
She has DJed at WonderSoul Weekender in Indonesia, Berlin Beat Invasion, Munich Garage Festival, Gambeat in Barcelona, Wild Weekend in Mallorca, Festival Beat in Italy, Klub Beatmaker in Malmö, Sweet & Rowdy in Copenhagen.
Jawa saw Telecom at a festival this year and said "if you get them playing at Spun, I'll play with them"... so we did!
