Smart, talented, dreamy Louise is not blonde and a little bit clumsy and so, this being an ‘80s movie, she’s a loser. That is, until she turns sixteen and discovers that the prophecy she was given by local palm-reader Madame Serena (the iconic Zelda Rubenstein) turns true: she is a witch, and her powers are coming in. But as any witch can tell you, whatever you put out will come back to you threefold. When you transmute your creepy little brother, what is at risk? Can Louise avoid letting her powers corrupt her? Who is she truly meant to be? And, most importantly of all, does she have bars?
No, to that last one. Typically those questions in movie summaries are rhetorical, but we’ll go ahead and spoil it for you: no she emphatically does not. Famously beginning its development as “Teen Wolf but for girls,” if you only know Teen Witch for one thing, it’s probably the bizarre and delightful song and dance interludes, mostly the hilarious and excruciating front-lawn rap battle Top That. Words fail; this classic must be seen to be believed.
