About this Event

Teen Safety, Self-Defense & CPR Program is a practical 4-week course (8 total hours) designed to help teens build confidence, awareness, and real-world personal safety skills in a positive and supportive environment.

Time:
10:00 AM – 12:00 PM

This hands-on program is designed for teens ages 12–17 and is ideal for beginners with no previous experience required.

Participants will learn awareness and prevention strategies, verbal boundary setting, basic self-defense concepts, scenario training, CPR/AED basics, and introductory first aid concepts. The course focuses on practical safety, confidence, and decision-making under stress — not traditional martial arts competition.

WHAT STUDENTS WILL LEARN:

Week 1 — Awareness, Prevention & Self-Defense Fundamentals
• Awareness and prevention strategies
• What an attacker wants — and does not want — from you
• How being “too polite” can sometimes be dangerous
• What self-defense is — and what it is not
• Boundaries and the power of the word “NO”
• Situational awareness
• Understanding human behavior and how it relates to violence
• Common attacks and common distractions
• Verbal de-escalation and communication strategies
• Primary and secondary targets
• Confrontations and conflict management
• Social vs. antisocial violence
• Bullying and situations teens may commonly face
• Physical strategies, principles, and concepts
• Basic striking fundamentals
• No memorization of complicated techniques

Week 2 — Ground Defense, Attacks from Behind & Ambushes
• Ground survival concepts
• Attacks from the back
• Ambush scenarios
• Scenario-based training
• Hands-on practice and drills
• Escape concepts and movement under stress

Week 3 — CPR & Review Training
• CPR and AED basics
• Emergency response concepts
• Review of Week 1 and Week 2 material
• Scenario drills and confidence-building exercises

Week 4 — First Aid & Final Scenario Training
• Basic first aid for teens
• Basic wound care concepts
• Emergency awareness and response
• Scenario-based testing and review
• Practical exercises to reinforce what students learned throughout the course

Classes are taught by William Stedman of Safe Milwaukee Self Defense. William is a firefighter/paramedic, CPR instructor, and self-defense instructor with years of experience teaching personal safety and violence prevention throughout the community. He has taught over 15,000 students and clients through schools, workplaces, community programs, and self-defense workshops.
