About this Event
Camp Overview
This camp gives teens the chance to turn a plain oversized shirt into a unique piece of wearable art. They’ll learn sewing basics, simple alterations, and creative design techniques in a fun, supervised, hands-on environment. By the end of the week, each teen will take home a finished, personalized shirt they can wear or gift.
Skills Learned
- Sewing machine basics and safe operation
- Alterations: hemming, taking in or letting out seams, cropping
- Creative design techniques: fabric paint, appliqué, patches, embellishments
- Garment finishing: pressing, topstitching, and clean seams
- Problem-solving and project planning
Daily Structure
- Day 1: Shirt planning and layout – brainstorm design and mark fabric
- Day 2: Altering the shirt – hem, crop, or adjust seams
- Day 3: Adding creative designs – pleets, ruffles or more
- Day 4: Finishing touches – topstitching, extra embellishments
- Day 5: Showcase & celebration – fashion show, photos, and take-home shirt
