Tech/ish AVL- AI & Attachment: How AI is Reshaping Human Relationships
About this Event
We're living through a quiet experiment: companionship and emotional support have quickly become one of the most common reasons people turn to AI, and millions are now confiding in chatbots the way they'd confide in a friend, partner, or parent. What does that do to us? We'll cover the basics of attachment (the system that shapes who we trust and lean on), how AI companions tap into it, who's at risk, warning signs, and how to identify if someone is leaning on AI a little too much. After a short presentation, we’ll have a facilitated group discussion. Come ready to share your questions and experiences.
Homework (~10 min): We suggest you read "The Attachment Economy Is Here." from the Center for Humane Technology before you arrive. It's a short piece summarizing Dr. Zak Stein's argument that "AI psychosis" stories are just the tip of the iceberg, and that the larger AI risk is an erosion in our capacity for human connection.
