This month TEC's own Wyatt Johnson will lead a session on replacing or upgrading a computer's RAM.
We will provide laptops to work on if you don't want to bring or don't have your own.
RAM is one of the most important parts of your computer -- that's why it's one of the most prominent specifications listed when you look at computers or laptops for sale. Often, in order to make a computer run better, you need to upgrade or increase its RAM. You don't need to buy a new computer to achieve this -- and that's what you'll learn in this workshop.
After Wyatt explains the basic theory of RAM and how it works, he'll guide you on how you can upgrade the RAM in your own (or one of TEC's) computers. This will be a hands-on experience in a friendly environment -- no techie expertise or experience required!
Thanks to iFixit, we have all the specialty tools you'll need, from technical screwdrivers to antistatic tables. Just bring yourself and, if you'd like, your computer (or just use one of ours to practice on).

The ACSL is located in Room 2108 of the MA building. Go through the sliding glass doors at the front of the MA building and up the stairs to your immediate left. The room is the first door on the right in the hallway. The wall is bright orange so you can’t miss it. There is also a sign on the sliding door with a number you can call for someone to come down and lead the way.
The Technology Education Collaborative supports the secure, thoughtful use of technology.
Our efforts help people better understand the computers embedded in everyday life so people are empowered to make intentional decisions about the tech they use.
