Genealogy is names and dates... but it's so much more. Genealogist Joan Shurtliff will tell the tale of "The Teachman's - Their Nebraska Story" on Saturday, March 30... Born in Lincoln, Joan grew up hearing the stories of Luke and Margaret Teachman and their six sons who came to Nebraska in 1870 to homestead. Their story is one of murder, struggle, death, birth, leaving, coming home, booze, good neighbors, a questionable so-called attorney, a pension, a will and more. She will also discuss resources she used to separate fact from lore and places the search has taken her. A member of the Lincoln Lancaster County Genealogical Society and the Saunders County GenSeekers, Joan is active in the Seward County Genealogical Society.
