About this Event

Join us for an evening of elective PD and hear from education professionals as they share their ideas and experiences of implementing environmental and sustainability solutions into their teaching. Discover how teachers are developing learning opportunities to inspire solutions and action for a sustainable future.

This event will include presentations from classroom teachers, museum education professionals and environmental advocates. Guests will have the opportunity to explore the museum galleries and enjoy complimentary refreshments, while networking with other teachers.

Speaker bios

Claudette Rechtorik

Claudette has over 25 years’ experience in the environmental education and conservation space. She is a passionate and driven environmental educator. Claudette established and managed the SEA LIFE Conservation Trust; she works as a high school Science teacher and in 2015 she founded Ocean Youth. This program aims to empower young people on their journey to take action for our ocean.


Louise Swanson

Louise is a passionate geographer and environmental advocate. Louise is the owner and director of The Harbour School Sydney, an organisation focussed on environmental education, professional learning, career development opportunities and student work placements. She is currently facilitating a Schools Foreshore Project to engage students in environmental monitoring and ecosystem restoration projects. Louise has worked in educational leadership positions at the Department of Education and is a co-ordinating author of the Powerful Geography and Geoactive textbooks.


Dr Mathew Sloane

Mat Sloane has been a scientist and educator for 20 years in universities, research institutes and museums. Mat has worked in the fields of cancer, epigenetics, evolutionary biology and wildlife conservation. Mat is currently the Education Program Manager at the Australian National Maritime Museum where he leads a team to deliver onsite programs and digital resources for primary and secondary students.
