Teaching about Consent & Managing Disclosures of Sexual Assault
Aims to understand how to effectively embed the topic of consent within the broader PSHE curriculum and to feel confident managing disclosures related to sexual assault
- Understand the importance of adopting a holistic approach to educating about consent including gender, social norms and bystander approach
- Identify a spiral curriculum approach to teaching consent
- Explore the current context of sexual assault in the UK & learn about the effects of sexual assault
- Build on confidence regarding how to react to a sexual assault disclosure and follow up
Brook
With over 55 years of experience, Brook is the UK’s leading sexual health and wellbeing charity for young people. We offer free and confidential relationship and sexual health services to those under 25 at our Brook Clinics across the UK. Nationally and locally, we support and enhance school RSE, working with young people in various settings.As a trusted source of information, we bridge the gap between schools, young people, and the community, drawing on our extensive experience to inform our approach.We also provide counselling and wellbeing services, sex and relationships education for young people, professional training, and accessible digital information at www.brook.org.uk.
London Sexual Violence Education at Brook
Thanks to generous funding from NHS England, the London Sexual Violence team provides 60 free hours of support to young people (aged 14-25) and professionals on topics related to sexual violence. This support is available in various educational settings across London, including secondary schools, PRUs, and youth projects.
