About this Event
Join us for a vibrant celebration of creativity and the power of teachers as writers.
This special showcase marks the launch of our students’ published work—spotlighting the imagination, craft and pedagogical insight that shape our BEd and Post Primary English programmes.
Across our programme, we champion teachers who read, write and communicate with confidence, bringing these strengths into their classrooms to inspire future learners. This event shines a light on that ethos in action, offering students a platform to share their stories, poems and creative journeys through live and multimedia presentations.
We're also delighted to present two keynotes from outstanding experts in this field.
- Prof. Teresa Cremin, Professor of Education (Literacy) and Co-Director of the Literacy and Social Justice Centre at The Open University in the Faculty of Wellbeing, Education and Language Studies. An ex-teacher and teacher trainer, Prof. Cremin’s research focuses on volitional reading and writing, and teachers’ and children’s literate identities. A Fellow of the EA, AcSS and RSA, Teresa is a Trustee of UKLA and advises the DfE on reading for pleasure. She has published over 35 books on teaching literacy, most recently Reading for Pleasure: International Perspectives, Reading and Writing for Pleasure: An Evidence-informed Framework for Practice (both 2025) and Reading Teachers: Nurturing Reading for Pleasure (2022) with colleagues.
- Prof. David Waugh, Professor Emeritus, University of Durham. Prof. Waugh joined Durham University’s School of Education in 2010 as Director of Primary Programmes and Course Leader for Primary English. With fourteen years’ experience teaching in East Yorkshire schools, including as a deputy headteacher, he later became a lecturer in English for ITT at the University of Hull, where he led an Ofsted-outstanding PGCE and served as Head of Department. Now a Professor Emeritus at Durham, he has advised nationally on primary ITT, led projects on literacy and inclusion, and received a faculty prize for outreach. A prolific author, Prof. Waugh has written core ITT texts, digital resources and a subject-knowledge app, has authored several children's books, and has written two published novels with groups of children.
Tea and coffee wil be available on arrival from 9.00am-9.30am, and a light buffet lunch will be available following the event around 12.30pm.
We look forward to welcoming you to this special event which coincides with the UK's National Year of Reading 2026.
