Join National Gallery Artist Educators for a teacher engagement program focusing on diverse stories from Australia. The program will include ideas to engage students using the voices of leading Australian artists and their works in the National Collection, deepening student understanding through inquiry and connection.
National Gallery Artist Educators will share creative learning strategies designed to support students to make personal connections, build empathy and understanding, and participate in collaborative meaning-making. Together, these approaches encourage reflection on identity and how we can contribute to civic life.
This session will provide practical strategies to use in the classroom and is open to early learning, primary, secondary, and tertiary educators, as well as youth and arts professionals. Educators are also encouraged to engage with National Gallery learning resources and student online workshop programs before or after the session. This includes the student program Stories: Australian People and Places, which invites learners to think about what it means to be Australian through works of art by Australian artists, and the diverse stories they tell about the people and places of Australia.
National Gallery programs use an inquiry approach, supporting students to learn in multiple ways, including through material play, embodied experiences, inquiry-based conversation, creative writing, and reflection. This is informed by the National Gallery’s Creative Learning Approach.
A verifiable digital certificate will be delivered to each attendee with 2 continuing professional development (CPD) hours.
