Brookview’s TEACH Program is a hands-on, interactive workshop series which will take course over the 2023-2024 academic year. It is designed to educate and empower teens to make positive impacts in a community that is struggling with Substance Use Disorder (SUD). Each session, TEACH Program Members will participate in a variety of activities which will build their confidence and knowledge on the following:
-Individual substances and their effects on the body;
-The neurobiology of addiction (what addiction does to the brain);
-The negative effects of stigma on those that need help;
-How to use empowering language which encourages seeking help;
-Several resources which can be provided to those struggling with
SUD;
-Harm Reduction strategies;
-How to advocate in their community for resources needed to
address the current SUD epidemic;
-How to recognize their own dependence on their phones and
computers;
-How to support the mental health of themselves and others; and
-Healthy behaviors to cope with stress.
Teens that attend 3 sessions will be rewarded with a $25 gift card.
