About this Event
Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID) is a DSM-5-recognized eating disorder that can extend beyond childhood. While less widely known than other eating disorders, it may be just as prevalent among adults.
ARFID is characterized by factors such as sensory challenges, fear of choking or vomiting, and a lack of interest in food or eating. It is crucial for healthcare providers to familiarize themselves with the clinical features, health implications, and unique challenges of ARFID in adults.
This presentation emphasizes the need for increased awareness, detection, and interventions to improve outcomes in this population.
Objectives:
- Define the DSM-5 diagnostic criteria for ARFID.
- Identify key indicators and clinical presentations of ARFID in adults.
- Understand the potential health complications associated with ARFID.
- Explore common treatment approaches across different levels of care for ARFID intervention.
