Tea, Memory & Poetry: A Creative Writing Workshop
About this Event
Through five carefully selected objects from the collection and five specially paired teas, this workshop explores the themes of memory, grief and the stories objects can hold. Participants will be invited to respond creatively through poetry in a relaxed and welcoming environment.
The creative writing workshop will be led by Parvinder Marwaha, writer and founder of chai breaker, an initiative started in 2019 that uses tea as a catalyst for conversation, storytelling and creative expression. Throughout the afternoon, Curator Grace Benham and Tea Sommelier Michael Butler will introduce the selected objects and tea pairings, exploring how material culture and sensory experience can inspire reflection and new writing.
Founded by Nirmal Sethia in honour of his late wife, Chitra Sethia, the Chitra Collection provides a meaningful setting for this exploration of remembrance and memory.
No previous writing experience is required, this workshop is open to anyone with an interest in poetry, creative writing, museums or tea.
The workshop includes:
- A curator-led introduction to five objects from the Chitra Collection
- A guided tasting of five teas
- A creative writing workshop led by Parvinder Marwaha
- Optional sharing and group discussion
As a gentle chai breaker, participants are invited to bring a photograph or object that connects with a personal memory or experience of grief to share during the introductory tea tasting.
