Nau mai, haere mai! Join us to celebrate Te Rā o Waitangi 2026, Wellington City Council’s free annual Waitangi Day event ❤️🖤 Te Rā o Waitangi 2026 acknowledges tūrangawaewae and whakapapa for all!
Bring your friends and whānau to Waitangi Park from 12 noon to 6pm on Friday 6 February for live music, kai, activities celebrating Māori culture, and the spirit of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
He aha kei te haere? What to expect:
✨ Live performances showcasing tangata whenua and tangata tiriti talent
✨ Multicultural food stalls and a fundraiser hāngi from midday (get in quick!)
✨ Arts, crafts, and family-friendly activities, including taonga tākaro Māori
✨Pacific Media Networks 531pi audience stage activations
✨ Stunning stage artwork created at the 2024 event by artists Keri-Mei Zagrobelna and Tina Rae Carter
✨ A Treaty Education Tent to learn, reflect, and connect
Gather your whānau and join us to honour our past, celebrate our present, and dream of our future together.
Alongside our Te Rā o Waitangi event, we’re excited to bring the free theatre roadshow ‘He Māori?’ by Īhaka Martyn and Taki Rua Productions, this Waitangi Day. Catch a performance at one of three locations:
🕙 10am–11.30am: Tawa Community Centre
🕜 1.30pm–3pm: Khandallah Community Centre
🕓 4pm–5.30pm: The Hannah Playhouse
All shows are free, but bookings are required.
