Haere mai, community and whānau are invited to join Wai Connection and Te Kohuroa Rewilding for an evening of spotlighting along the Te Kohuroa Awa in the beautiful Matheson Bay Reserve - see the stream come to life by night and discover what freshwater creatures are to be found in your local ngahere.
Registration is essential, so please scan the QR code on the event banner or head to https://forms.gle/9mjfVaiNFcf1yxLx9 to register and confirm your attendance.
We will be gathering at 5pm and will be able to spotlight from sunset (which is estimated to be ~5.10pm that evening). As locals will already know, the Te Kohuroa Awa runs along a great boardwalk that we will be able to spotlight from. It will be interesting to see what (hopefully) native species live up- and downstream of the Te Kohuroa waterfall, and in the different habitats along the awa such as the swimming hole and the rocky riffles.
Hot chocolate will also be provided at the end of the event so no one gets too makariri - please BYOCup to get your cup of delicious-ness.
Please note, all tamariki are welcome, but we require a 1:4 supervision ratio of supervisor (i.e. parent or caregiver) to children for ages 5 years and up, and 1:1 supervision for any tamariki under 5. This is as we will be streamside in the dark, so we require more supervision to keep our tamariki safe.
We have also set a back-up date for this event should bad weather eventuate.
Thank you to Te Kohuroa Rewilding for collaborating with us for this event, and thank you to the Ministry for Environment for making this event possible through the Wai Connection project.
