Te Ahi Manawa | An Occasion to Celebrate, 9-10 February 2023
Te Ahi Manawa | An Occasion to Celebrate is the inaugural gathering of community members, researchers, clinicians, policy-makers and educators that contribute to the operations of Pūtahi Manawa.
Pūtahi Manawa is ‘Business-not-as-usual’. We strive for equity in all its research, outreach and education activities. Te Ahi Manawa | An Occasion to Celebrate will share and acknowledge our Pūtahi Manawa values that are rooted in Te Ao Māori.

Community voices are central to our celebration. The sharing of lived experiences illustrates the impacts on individuals, their whānau and the wider community. Cultural customs will be woven into this event to showcase some of the elements that form cultural identity of Māori and Pacific Peoples.
About Pūtahi Manawa
Pūtahi Manawa | Healthy Hearts for Aotearoa New Zealand Centre of Research Excellence (CoRE) is a national and international collaboration designed to work in partnership with iwi, hāpu, whānau and ainga to create a vibrant world-class centre for research into heart and respiratory diseases to improve outcomes, particularly for Māori and Pacific Peoples who are the groups most affected by these diseases in Aotearoa.
Mission Statement for Putahi Manawa CoRE
The mission of Pūtahi Manawa is to improve equity in heart health for Māori and Pacific Peoples through research excellence and precision medicine. Pūtahi Manawa will bring together research scientists, clinicians, educationalists and communities by comprehensively and collaboratively addressing issues around equity in heart health outcomes to support and complement the public health approach. We wish to work in partnership with communities and researchers to create a vibrant world-class environment and network for heart research in Aotearoa that is underpinned by evidenced based, multi-disciplinary collaborative research that delivers clinical benefits and equity to patients with cardiovascular diseases. It is our aim that Pūtahi Manawa works directly with and for communities across Aotearoa.
