TCS Ruhaniyat 2025
Seeking the Divine
Banyan Tree’s Ruhaniyat is 25 this year ! The festival brings alive messages of great mystics and saints from across centuries and continues to be not just among the most loved events but equally relevant too. In fact, Ruhaniyat can indeed claim to be The Only Festival of Its Kind in India and probably, around the world for several reasons. To begin with it is the only National festival, presented in all the four corners of India, in 8 different cities - Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Chennai, Ahmedabad and Pune for so many years; secondly, for the number of unheard of living traditions it has brought on the main stage. Yet another reason is, the number of carriers of near extinction forms, expressions of our amazing, timeless intangible heritage that received a new lease of life through Ruhaniyat; not to mention the number of stars it has created from remote corners of India. While there have been somewhat similar attempts over the years, Ruhaniyat is the only festival that has been an uninterrupted presentation year after year across the country now for quarter of a century !
This truly laudable achievement was possible thanks to the ever growing love and enthusiasm of the audiences all across, and, the consistent support from the National presenting partners Tata Consultancy Services. Conceived and curated by Mahesh Babu, founder director of Banyan Tree, Ruhaniyat has also presented unique forms and artists from more than 30 countries through this journey. Each year, in each city the international collaborations bring alive the lofty concept of ancient India Vasudhaiva Kutambakam” in truly powerful productions curated just for Ruhaniyat. This festival has also created robust and beautiful cultural bridges that spread so much joy, love and friendship on and off the stage. These are bridges of hope, harmony and universal brotherhood, that have only grown from strength to strength tiding over all man-made divides of colour, language, religion, region and so on.
In this time and age where there is so much strife, pain, hatred spewing venom all around, here is the timely reminder to connect with all that can give the tormented hearts some solace, some peace, some hope.
As always, this year too we have some never seen before forms like Paakh from Jammu, Gaatha from Punjab, Ninda Stuti and Jonana from Odisha, Tukkha Gaan from West Bengal, Mystical Ugabhogas from Karnataka and Nanthuni Pattu from Kerala to name a few.
Some of the forms and artists that made their debut with Ruhaniyat like Parvathy Baul and some who have been with Ruhaniyat from the very first year, like Kachra Khan and Warasi brothers too will be part of this special 25 th year edition as an acknowledgement to their contribution.
Lastly, but very importantly, there will also be unique forms of mystic music from other countries. This year we have first ever presentations from Brazil, China, Italy, South Africa, and also from countries that have been featured in the past like Gambia in West Africa and Egypt. Needless to add each city will also have a specially curated Global production where Indian artists will collaborate with guest artists from other countries in the process melt boundaries and spread joy that will last much longer after the concert.
Global Productions in each city will bring alive melting of boundaries to create Musical bridges of Universal brotherhood, love, harmony, peace & joy!
