About this Event
Join us for a naturalist-guided tour of Conservation Foundation's Tatum Sawgrass Scrub Preserve. Along the way, participants will learn about the plants and animals that call this place home and the importance of protecting natural areas along the Myakka River. This unique property, only open to the public during special events and guided tours, is connected to the 2,500 acre Tatum Sawgrass marsh, the largest floodplain marsh along the Myakka River. The property consists of scrub, oak hammock, and flood-plain marsh which support imperiled species such as the gopher tortoise, eastern indigo snake, and wading birds like the American wood stork. Conservation Foundation plans to restore the scrub habitat to attract Florida Scrub Jays.
This program is suitable for all ages. Participants under 16 must attend with a parent or guardian.
Participants should bring a water bottle and wear comfortable clothing for walking outdoors. We recommend sun protection, bug spray, and closed-toe shoes that strap or tie to your feet, no flip-flops. Depending on rainfall patterns, some of the trails may be flooded. Please note there are no restrooms or water fountains available on site.
A $5 dollar donation per person is suggested for this program. Your gift will help Big Waters Land Trust save wild places and continue to engage people in nature. We greatly appreciate your support!
