Learn about cultural trends, and the connection between tattoo art and community from Toby Linwood, Horisuzu, Mallory Miller, and Horisora.
Toby Linwood (he/him) is a BIPOC (Black & Indigenous Person of Color) tattoo shop owner and licensed tattoo artist at Tattoo 34 in Portland, OR. Toby has been tattooing since 2010. Toby started his passion for art in Southern Oregon, as a graffiti artist when he was a teen before expanding to other art forms, including tattoo. Toby enjoys tattooing because, "I love working with and creating artwork with other people. I've created artwork in many other forms but this one is more lasting and personal." Toby's passion and dedication to his art shows in every tattoo he creates. Toby’s artwork can be found at @tobylinwood on Instagram.
Horisuzu is a Japanese tattoo artist based in Portland, OR who practices the traditional Tebori method of tattooing by hand. This method has been practiced for over 400 years in Japan and his art focuses on forms and motifs of the Traditional Japanese Tattoo. This form of tattooing focuses on storytelling and symbolism through art. Horisuzu’s artwork can be found at @horisuzu_1st on Instagram.
Mallory Miller is a queer Tattoo artist based in Eugene, OR. Her inclusive, judgement-free tattoo shop emphasizes eco-friendly materials and waste reduction. She primarily tattoos black and grey vintage illustrations, with a special love for botanicals, florals, and insects. Mallory’s art can be found at @tattoowtichmal on Instagram.
Horisora is a Japanese traditional tattoo artist based in Portland, OR. She practices the Tebori method of tattooing by hand and her artwork is deeply rooted in Japanese cultural history, often carrying significant meaning and symbolism that has evolved over centuries. Horisori’s artwork can be found at @horisora on Instagram.
