Tatsumaki Taiko - Intro to Taiko Drumming

Our 5-week Intro to Taiko course will be at our studio: 4521 Barrett Ave, Richmond.

We supply the equipment and materials for the classes. No prior experience required.

Lessons are taught using both Western and Japanese instruction methods. Learn to play taiko, make new friends, and have fun.

The class covers basic taiko & drumming technique, and things that are unique to taiko - "Kata," "Kuchishowa," basic "Ji Uchi" rhythms.

We also discuss the history of taiko drumming, and how taiko are made - both in Japan, and in the US. By the end of the course you will have gained a deeper understanding of this popular and exciting form of Japanese music.

The full "Intro to Taiko" course is 5 Sunday classes.

Payment can be also be made by PayPal, Zelle, Check, or Cash; and there is a $30 per class drop-in fee available.

* Each class starts with a review of basic taiko techniques, kuchishowa, kata...
* Each class will review the topics covered in the previous class(es)
* The class will learn the basic rhythms of a song over the 6 week course
* The topic of one class will include a discussion on the history of taiko
* The topic of one class will include a discussion how taiko drums are made
