Before the NSA and the CIA, Elizabeth Smith Friedman, Genevieve Grotjan, Frances Steen, and many more women deciphered some of the most challenging coded messages in the world. Discover the hidden stories of these amazing female cryptographers who brought about the ends of both world wars, brought down smuggling rings and mobsters, and changed the course of history. Because of the top-secret nature of their work, they had to keep silent about what they were doing, with the credit often going to the men around them. Taste of ISM celebrates the work and passion of the team of the Illinois State Museum. You’re invited to join us for a lunch and learn style program where you’ll hear stories about art, history, science, and the magical world of museums. You are welcome to bring your lunch to eat during the program, but lunch is not provided.
