Guest Speakers
Our keynote speaker will be Bill Hackwell. Bill has worked on Cuban solidarity projects since 1992, including many years as the spokesperson for the Pastors for Peace caravans. With his wife Alicia Jrapko, he was a key organizer in the International Committee for the Freedom of the Cuban 5 until they were freed on December 17, 2014. Both he and Alicia were recognized for their contribution with the prestigious Cuban Medal of Friendship. In 2015, Bill and Alicia founded Resumen Latinoamericano, an online publication where Bill continues as editor in chief today. (Bill was also editor of the TFA Report for some three years.)
Direct from Honduras, Gerardo Torres Zelaya will speak to us by video. He now serves as Vice Foreign Minister in the new Honduran government and as International Liason for the LIBRE (Freedom and Re- Foundation) party. Many of us remember him with fondness when he came to the Bay Area as a young man to speak about what was happening in Honduras after the 2009 coup.
