Iranian musician Targol Khalighi is a leading performer on the tar, rubab and setar, and one of the most accomplished instrumentalists of her generation in Iranian music. Trained at the Girls' Music Conservatory, she holds a master's degree in music from Tehran University of Art, and has studied with some of Iran's most respected masters, including Houshang Zarif, Shahriar Faryousefi, Mahmoud Behrouz and Mohsen Nafar.
Over her career, Khalighi has worked with many of the leading names in contemporary Iranian music. For several years she performed with Homayoun Shajarian and Hamid Motebassem in the Simorgh Ensemble, and she has also collaborated with acclaimed vocalist Alireza Ghorbani, as well as Mohammad Motamedi, Ardeshir Kamkar and Bijan Kamkar. Her international career has taken her to concert halls and festivals across Europe and beyond, and she has performed with the Iranian National Orchestra.
At Global Sounds Festival, Khalighi opens a new chapter in her artistry. At its center is the rubab, one of the region's most distinctive string instruments, whose warm, resonant acoustic tone meets electronic sound, linking centuries of musical heritage with a contemporary sonic world. The concert also marks the start of a new collaboration with United Voice, which will release her upcoming album, and offers a first glimpse of this new project.
Experience Targol Khalighi live at Global Sounds Festival, a night where centuries-old strings find a new voice: intimate, powerful and contemporary.
