Taproom Theology | Forgiveness: Grace in the Messiness of Being Human

Forgiveness is far more complicated than a simple spiritual decision. Drawing on theology, psychology, and physical well-being, this Taproom Theology conversation explores the grace we receive and the forgiveness we extend, while making room for the anger, grief, regret, and unresolved hurt that shape our lives and relationships.
Together, we’ll wrestle with the tensions between grace and accountability, forgiveness and boundaries, and healing and reconciliation. We’ll consider why forgiveness doesn’t mean excusing harm, forgetting what happened, or returning to unsafe relationships, and how God’s love meets us not just when we forgive, but throughout the messy, imperfect process of getting there.
Sage Bolte is an educator, mental health therapist, and clinician in Northern Virginia. After beginning her career as an oncology counselor, she held leadership roles in cancer care and patient experience before moving into philanthropy. She earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology and social work from Hope College in Michigan, a master’s in social work from the University of Michigan, and a doctorate in social work from The Catholic University of America. She is nationally recognized for her expertise in sexual health and cancer.
A 2024 Women in Leadership honoree, Bolte is passionate about building meaningful relationships, fostering collaboration and sharing stories that inspire impact. Outside of work, she enjoys weightlifting, running and sprint triathlons—and, as she says, “You’ll always find me at the gym.”
Taproom Theology is a relaxed gathering of curious minds and open hearts where we explore questions about faith, culture, and everyday life over a shared table. No sermons, no pressure – just thoughtful dialogue and a spirit of hope in a welcoming atmosphere.
Whether you’re simply curious, loosely connected, deeply rooted in faith, or healing from past experiences, Taproom Theology offers a spiritually safe space to ask your questions – big or small – and wrestle over timeless truths with kindred spirits.
Each event features:
• A brief talk from a subject matter expert such as a historian, pastor, or theologian to stimulate discussion
• Open, respectful Q&A session over food and drink
• Community without dogma – just thoughtful discourse and shared presence
Come curious, leave connected, and together we’ll reclaim the tradition of a shared story, spirited inquiry, and radical hospitality.
