Small studio - Introduction to Contra Dance Beau and Mickey Farmer and Mattie Rynkiewicz, contra artists with many combined years of calling, teaching and music experience, will guide attendees as they explore the history, music, language, and movement of contra dancing. Using both recorded and live music, participants will be taught and perform a half dozen or more different dances, beginning with traditional choreography and music, such as jigs and reels, and moving through a variety of styles, culminating with the more modern, jazzy and energetic dancing of today. The evening will end with dimming the lights and dancing one or two “techno” contras. Don’t miss this fun, informative and hands-on introduction to contra! Open to all but especially tailored to those with little to no experience. No partner required.
