Aby prozkoumal platnost tohoto silného tvrzení, soustředí se režisér Alon Schwarz ("Aidina tajemství") na izraelské přímořské město Tantura. Kdysi prosperující palestinskou arabskou rybářskou vesnici, která se stala místem masakru spáchaného sionistickou brigádou Alexandroni na počátku kampaně za ovládnutí Palestiny v roce 1948 - Izraelci vnímanou jako válka o nezávislost. Pro Palestince počátek jejich tragického vysídlení známý jako Nakba.
Podrobnosti o tom, co se před více než 70 lety odehrálo v Tantuře, zůstávaly dlouho utajeny - jde o tabuizované téma, které je v rozporu s idealizovaným sebeobrazem izraelského státu. Koncem 90. let však student Teddy Katz v rámci své magisterské práce vyzpovídal mnoho příslušníků židovských milicí, kteří se na tom podíleli. To, co následovalo a co to vyvolalo, není něco, co byste čekali v demokratické společnosti.

“To create a safe haven by causing a catastrophe for others is impossible,” says Israeli historian Ilan Pappé about the creation of the State of Israel after World War II in the myth-busting documentary film Tantura.
To investigate the validity of this powerful assertion, director Alon Schwarz (Aida's Secrets) focuses on the Israeli coastal town of Tantura. Once a prosperous Palestinian Arab fishing village, it became the site of a massacre committed by the Zionist Alexandroni Brigade at the beginning of the 1948 campaign to control Palestine—viewed by Israelis as the War of Independence. For Palestinians, it marked the beginning of their tragic displacement, known as the Nakba.
Details of what took place in Tantura more than 70 years ago remained hidden for a long time—a taboo subject that contradicts the idealized self-image of the Israeli state. In the late 1990s, however, student Teddy Katz interviewed many members of the Jewish militias who were involved as part of his master's thesis. What followed, and what it triggered, is not something you would expect in a democratic society.
